Annual Laboratory Safety Refresher Training


The following instructions are for accessing the UIC/EHSO on-line training.

Laboratory Safety Refresher Training is required by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for all researchers, students, faculty and staff working in laboratories with chemicals. This should be completed annually.

Time Commitment

The program will take approximately 2 hours to complete and consists of 3 courses. If you cannot complete the course in one session, you may log in at a later time using the same user name and continue with course.


  • Please DO NOT attempt to skip any of the content, the training systems will not consider you complete if any section was skipped.

Getting Started

Complete the following steps to register for and access the Online training course.

  2. Use the following table:
  3. Select Course Catalog from the menu on the left.
  4. Check mark "Environmental Health and Safety" and click on Browse Selected Categories.
  5. Click on "Laboratory Safety Refresher Training" course.
  6. Click on the Enroll.
  7. Click on "My Courses".  Find the registered course.
  8. Click on "Launch Course" and complete the courses in this program.

  9. The course has built in questions as you proceed through the topics.  Complete the questions and click on Submit Responses.
  10. Once course has been completely reviewed, the system will indicate that the course has been completed and an email will be sent regarding training certificate for the course
  11. Proceed same steps for all three courses in this program


Verification of Training 

Following successful completion of the program, the UIC Training Learning Management System (LMS) will generate an automatic email to the user indicating which course has been completed and provide information on accessing and printing the certificate for completed course.
